REST IN PROFT
As part of the collective SpätiSpäti, and together with the tenants association Adalbert Neun bleibt e.V., we became involved in the struggle to protect the building and challenge the ongoing displacement of cultural and social spaces through real estate speculation.
Our response was not only political but also creative: through collective action, exhibitions, public protest and the act of mourning, we sought to turn the loss of the building into a form of resistance.
The struggle ultimately failed, all artists were evicted, and three years later, the former studios at Adalbertstraße 9 still stand empty. Another vacant space, caught in the cycle of real estate speculation.
Looking back, the project reflects on the relationship between urban development, cultural production, and the right to the city. It asks who gets to shape the future of our neighbourhoods and whether a city can remain diverse and accessible when its spaces are increasingly governed by profit rather than the needs of the people who inhabit them.
