(Non)Hierarchies

︎SeminarSeminar 4.0
︎Online, UDK, Tempelhofer Feld, City of Berlin
︎ Wintersemester 2021/2022︎︎︎ In collaboration with Oliver Gudzowski, Jakob Köchert, Sofia Ogarkova

The SeminarSeminar 4.0 was about the structure of the seminar it self which aims to be as hierarchy-less as possible: a horizontal learning environment – everyone is teacher and student at the same time.

But is that even possible? Can we learn and be productive without hierarchies? Can we be creative without them? How and in which forms are hierarchies evolving? Are structures of shared responsibilities equivalent to hierachies?

The topics were discussed at first weekly. Then smaller groups were researching and experimenting with different approaches to the topic: hierarchies in space, of bodies, of human and non-human, of the city and more. The collective and practical investigations were deepened and presented to the others in two intense weekends, which were still under the spell of covid regularities.

The texts, thoughts and experiments created by the participants were documented and compiled in a booklet. It appeared at Il Gazzettino at the Venice Biennale 2022. Thanks again to Lukas Feireiss for the opportunity and to Oliver Gudzowski and Barbara Herschel for co-editing.
